Training Is A Process

Me after a hot run this summer - which summarizes my
feelings of yesterday's run.
So, I announced on Monday to the world I've set the goal of running a sub-2 half marathon this fall. My first attempt at this mark is now less than 16 weeks away. Yesterday was my first training session for this race, and what do I do?

Cram all the sessions in to one.

Yup, yesterday's run was a bad one.

Apparently, I thought I should try to run a sub-2 on Day 1. I know better, and my body quickly reminded me of how foolish I was being.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was a tortoise turned into a sub-2 half marathoner.

I learned re-learned a valuable lesson yesterday.

Trust in your training plan.

The plan is there to help get you from where you are to where you want to be. It's a process, a road map per sa. Better yet, it's like connect-the-dots. You can't just go from the start to the finish without going in the proper order. If you do, you won't see the beautiful picture come into full view in connect-the-dots. And in your training, you won't fully reach your potential by skipping steps.

As of today, I am 110 days away from the Iron Horse Half Marathon. I have plenty of time to connect all the dots.

Trust your training, have fun and happy running!

  1. Just think of it this way..if you went out on your first run and sub 2'd..why would you need to train for the next 16 weeks?? Great lesson we all learn multiple times..Good luck on that sub 2..

    1. Thanks so much for you comment! And you're right. If I went out and did a sub-2 right away, there'd be no point in training for the next couple months. Happy running!
